Celebrating Culture, Resilience, and Traditions.
Our community is an indigenous tribe that inhabits the Khasi Hills region of Meghalaya, a state in Northeastern India. We are one of the largest communities in Meghalaya and are known for our unique culture, customs, and traditions.
We are predominantly Christian but also follow their traditional religion, based on the worship of nature and ancestors. We have a matrilineal society, meaning the lineage is traced by the mother's side, and women play a significant role in the family and community. We deeply respect nature and believe in preserving the environment.
Our language is part of the Austroasiatic family and is widely spoken in Meghalaya. Our traditional music, dance, and handicrafts are known around the world. The traditional dance of our community is known as "Ka Shad Suk Mynsiem," performed during the spring festival of Shad Suk Mynsiem.
We are known for our unique cuisine, a mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian. Some of the popular dishes include Jadoh (rice cooked with pork or chicken), Tung-rymbai (fermented soybean), and Doh Khlieh (spicy meat salad).
We have a rich cultural heritage, and their customs and traditions reflect their deep connection with nature and the environment.
